Scheduling
Depending on the sport or event there are three scheduling options.
1.) Single day tournament that will have a time block. The tournament will be played until completed during this block and participants should be available for the entire block. This date and time will be listed along with the specific playing rules.
2.) Each division will have specific day of the week and times that the captain registers for. Two or three times are typically listed and the team must be available to play during any times throughout the season. After the registration deadline a schedule will be released for all teams for their one game a week.
3.) Scheduling restrictions are submitted by the team captain when registering.
Scheduling Restrictions
Team captains input a team's scheduling restrictions for their general availability when registering their team. Captains are able to add "general availability" for days of the week. This will be especially helpful for special events and tournaments.
The scheduling restrictions do not supersede the division day and time the team registered for.
The scheduling restrictions tab on DSE is next to the roster tab.
Regular season
A sport with a regular season will have a game scheduled once a week for 2-4 weeks depending on the sport. A teams' record and sportsmanship will dictate eligibility for playoffs.
Regular season games cannot be rescheduled. When a team concedes, that game will be offered to the rest of the league – if a team wants to play the game it will be added to their regular season schedule and count on their overall record.
Playoffs
IM sports that have a regular season schedule will have a single elimination playoff bracket. Up to the top 8 teams will be placed in the bracket. If a team needs to be moved up to Competitive from Just For Fun, a play-in game must be played before the first round of games. There is typically 4-7 days between the end of regular season and the start of playoffs.
Captains' will be asked to submit Scheduling Restrictions to schedule playoffs. Time preferences cannot be guaranteed.
Playoff games are not eligible to be rescheduled until semi-finals - the exception is for religious or cultural observances. When a reschedule is requested, if a time cannot be agreed on by both teams then the original game time will stand.
Individual and doubles events/games
Through the semester there are several activities for individuals, doubles/partners, and events. These are considered tournaments and the tournament champion will receive an IM Champ shirt and photo on the Wall of Champions.
There are two types of tournaments – progressive weekly tournament that usually runs 2-3 weeks or a 1-2 day tournament.
Forfeits and Concedes
A concede and a forfeit are the same except you will not be charged a penalty against your forfeit deposit, your sportsmanship will not be docked to a 2 and after 2 forfeits a team is removed from the season.
- After 2 Forfeits a team will be removed from the rest of the regular season, are not eligible for playoffs, and will not be refunded their forfeit deposit.
- Game Time = Forfeit Time
- To concede a game played during the week (Monday-Friday) you must call or email the Intramural Office by 2pm the day of your game.
- If you play on Saturday or Sunday you must call or email by 8am day of game.
- Concedes will be offered to the other teams in the league. If a team accepts the offered game it will be added to their regular schedule and be a part of their overall record.
Rainouts
Games or activities held outdoors will be subject to cancellation due to weather. The IM Field is a synthetic turf field and can be played on when it is not raining hard or lightening. Field playability will be determined by 2pm each day and if cancelled the captain's will be emailed directly. After 2pm IM Supervisors will determine the playability of fields through the day.
Communication
The captain will be the liaison between the team and the RecSports office. Any requests or questions should be channeled through the captain. Any communication from the RecSports office will go through the captain.
The captain is responsible for keeping their team informed of rules, policies, and any information that comes through the RecSports office.
Reschedules
There are no regular season reschedules.
- Teams have a cap on the number of people on their roster.
- Players can be added through the semifinal game of playoffs *if they have not already played in the same league.
- Captains are expected to submit accurate scheduling restrictions inclusive of the entire season or to sign-up in the leagues with the day and times the team is available to play.
The entire regular season schedule will be released at the start of the season. If a team cannot be at a scheduled game they must concede to avoid losing any of their forfeit deposit.
