NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The No. 10 Washington University in St. Louis women's cross country team got its first look at the course it will compete on later this fall at the NCAA Championships at the Running of the Cows Meet on Saturday morning.
Both this meet and the national championship will be hosted by Carleton.
Navy Championship Race
WashU finished in fifth place among the 35 teams that participated in the meet. No. 2 Williams finished first with 79 points, with No. 7 Wis.-La Crosse as the runner-up with 141 points. No. 3 Johns Hopkins was third with 176 points, and No. 6 Tufts was fourth with 197 points. The Bears' 203 points rounded out the top five teams.
Junior Lucinda Laughlin finished seventh overall with a time of 21:36.1, scoring just seven points for WashU. Junior Sally Carrington was the next Bear to finish in 39th place with a time of 22:17.9, scoring 35 points. First-year Lucy Luetkemeyer was 43rd with a time of 22:22.4, tallying 39 points.
Sophomore Taylor Buese (22:34.2 – 62nd place – 58 points) and junior Lauren Raley (22:37.8 – 68th place – 64 points) rounded out the scoring runners for the Bears.
Maize Race
In the first race of the day, WashU finished second with 66 points, behind Wis.-La Crosse's 23 points.
Junior Mackenzie Raue finished third in the race with a time of 22:44.8. Junior Grace Todd was 12th overall with a time of 23:12.8. They scored their place in points.
First-year Ella Jackson was 15th overall with a time of 23:14.48. Senior Lily Dipple (23:18.3) and first-year Madeline Cassidy (23:22.9) finished in 18th and 21st place, respectively, to finish the scoring for the Bears.
WashU is back on the course in two weeks on Saturday, Oct. 17, when it travels to Rock Island, Ill., for the Augie Inter Regional hosted by Augustana at the Saukie Golf Course.
