KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team wrapped up action at the ITA Fall Regional hosted by Kalamazoo on Saturday.
In doubles action, seniors
Colin Fox and
Case Fagan picked up an 8-6 win over Paulo Pocasangre and Alejandro Gonzalez of Kenyon before falling in an extra-point tiebreak, 8-7 (9) to Albert Mackey and Heyang Li of Chicago.
First-years
Jeremy Sieben and
Ethan Wu fell in a tiebreaker, 8-7(2) to Rafael Rin and Augusto Ghidini of Wabash. Seniors
Colin Scruggs and
Eric Kuo dropped their round of 32 contest to Shrikeshav Murugesan and Christian Liew of Chicago, 8-5.
In singles, Kuo opened the day with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Matthew Liew of Chicago before falling in a second-set tiebreak, 6-2, 7-6 (3) to George Kosseifi of Case Western Reserve.
Scruggs won his round of 32 match over JT Bilski of Case Western Reserve, 6-3, 6-1. In the round of 16, Scruggs dropped his opening set to Pocasangre 5-7. He rebounded with a 7-5 win in the second before falling 6-1 in the third.
Fox won his first set against Jacob Patterson of Denison before getting tripped up, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. Sieben won his first set against second-seeded Ethan Green of Denison, 6-2. Green eventually came back for a 2-6, 6-2, 7-6(4) win over Sieben.
Fagan fell in straight sets to the top-seeded Kael Shalin Shah of Denison, 6-3, 6-1.
WashU has one more weekend of action this fall when it hosts the WTN Open from Friday, Oct. 17, through Sunday, Oct. 19 at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center.
