ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The No. 10 Washington University in St. Louis softball team completed the three-game sweep of Emory with a 1-0 win on Sunday afternoon. The Bears, who won the UAA title for the first time since 2017 yesterday, finish out the regular season with a 32-5 overall record and a 17-1 mark in conference play. The 17 wins are the most the Bears have won in UAA play after the format changed in 2016.
After four scoreless innings, the Bears got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning. Sophomore
Kennedy Grippo singled up the middle and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from junior
Alexa Hanish. Senior
Maggie Baumstark drew a walk and with two outs, first-year
Harper Nix ripped a single to right center, scoring Grippo for a 1-0 game.
Grippo finished 2-for-3 with the lone run scored. Nix was 1-for-1 with the game-winning RBI and senior
Brooke Capparelli went 1-for-2. Senior
Erin Reardon and junior
Sydney Schneider both went 1-for-3 on the day.
Sophomore
Maria Brooks earned the win in the circle, pitching three innings of relief and allowing just one hit with no walks and one strikeout.
