No. 10 Softball Wraps up Regular Season with Sweep of Emory

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The No. 10 Washington University in St. Louis softball team completed the three-game sweep of Emory with a 1-0 win on Sunday afternoon. The Bears, who won the UAA title for the first time since 2017 yesterday, finish out the regular season with a 32-5 overall record and a 17-1 mark in conference play. The 17 wins are the most the Bears have won in UAA play after the format changed in 2016.

After four scoreless innings, the Bears got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning. Sophomore Kennedy Grippo singled up the middle and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from junior Alexa Hanish. Senior Maggie Baumstark drew a walk and with two outs, first-year Harper Nix ripped a single to right center, scoring Grippo for a 1-0 game.

Grippo finished 2-for-3 with the lone run scored. Nix was 1-for-1 with the game-winning RBI and senior Brooke Capparelli went 1-for-2. Senior Erin Reardon and junior Sydney Schneider both went 1-for-3 on the day.

Sophomore Maria Brooks earned the win in the circle, pitching three innings of relief and allowing just one hit with no walks and one strikeout.

The Bears will learn their NCAA Tournament fate on Monday at 10 a.m. CT. The selection show will be streamed live on NCAA.com.
