ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Looking to rebound after a tough, tight loss on Saturday, the No. 24 Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team made sure to finish the weekend on a high note. The Bears took on Div. I Creighton on Sunday afternoon and picked up a 4-0 win over the Blue Jays.
In a back-and-forth match at the top doubles spot, seniors
Stefan Hester and
Pato Garcia Muriel came away with a 6-4 win to put the Bears in the lead for the doubles point. Creighton was able to tie the doubles point up with a 7-5 win at number two.
WashU clinched the doubles point when juniors
Eric Kuo and
Colin Scruggs got their own 7-5 win at number three.
Leading 1-0 going into singles, Kuo got things started for the Bears with a 6-2, 6-3 win at the top spot, putting the Bears up 2-0. Yamamoto got WashU within one point of the win with his 7-5, 6-2 win at number three singles.
Hester clinched the win for the Bears with a 6-3, 7-6 (5) win at number two singles.
All three of the remaining matches were halted as the teams had decided to play to decision.
WashU will be back on the courts on Saturday, April 19, when they take on Greenville at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 9 a.m. Prior to the match, the Bears will honor their four seniors with special recognition.
