Basketball Opens UAA Play Against Chicago on Saturday

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The No. 5 Washington University in St. Louis men's basketball team and the No. 16/17 women's basketball team open up UAA play this weekend against Chicago on Saturday. The men's team tips off first at 1 p.m., followed by the women's game at 3 p.m. It marks the first of a three-game UAA homestand for both teams.
 
Men
The Bears are currently 10-1 as they head into conference play with the lone loss coming to local foe Illinois Wesleyan, which ranked No. 9 at the time. WashU has outscored its opponents by an average margin of 15.7 points, with its largest win of 50 points over Fontbonne.
 
Senior Hayden Doyle leads the Bears with 16.3 points and 3.9 rebounds per game as well as a team-high 37 assists. Senior Drake Kindsvater is averaging 14.0 points and a team-high 7.9 rebounds per game and has a team-high 18 steals. First-year Connor May is also in double-digits with 10.3 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.
 
Chicago heads into the weekend with a 9-2 record, suffering losses to Lake Forest College and Illinois Wesleyan, which ranked No. 4 at the time. The Maroons have outscored their opponents by an average margin of 14.6 points.
 
The Maroons are led by Thomas Kurowski with 12.9 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. Joe Berry is averaging 12.6 points and 3.2 rebounds per game while Daniel Cochran is at 9.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.
 
The Bears and Maroons split the series last season, as Chicago won the first match up 69-58 and WashU came away with the win at home, 61-58.
 
Women
The Bears are currently 9-2 heading into UAA play, falling to Illinois Wesleyan, which ranked No. 8 at the time, and UW-Platteville. The Bears are on a four-game winning streak, including wins against Fontbonne, Greenville and both games during their Puerto Rico trip against Dickinson and Bridgewater State.
 
Sophomore Lexy Harris leads the Bears with16.5 points and 9.7 rebounds per game as well as a team-high 13 blocks. Graduate senior Jessica Brooks is averaging 13.9 points and 9.2 rebounds per game and has 18 steals. Sophomore Alyssa Hughes is at 9.2 points per game and sophomore Sidney Rogers is at 9.0 points per game and has a team-high 39 assists and 24 steals.
 
Chicago, currently ranking No. 19, is 10-1 on the season, with the lone loss to Illinois Wesleyan, which was ranked No. 3 at the time.
 
Sophia North leads the Maroons with 14.1 points per game. Bri Simpson is averaging 9.6 points and 3.5 rebounds per game and Bella Alfaro is at 9.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.

The Bears swept the series against Chicago a season ago.
