Men's Tennis Makes Deep Runs at ITA Central Regional; Competes at Div. I Illinois State

ST. LOUIS, Mo./NORMAL, Ill. – It was a long weekend for the Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team as the Bears split up and competed in both the ITA Central Regional hosted by WashU as well as the Redbird Invitational at Illinois State.

Redbird Invitational:

Five Bears took part in the 7th annual event hosted by Div. I Illinois State. First-Year Avi Mahajan, sophomore Nathan Tam, sophomore Daniel Radke, and first-year Drew Koval all picked up singles wins against mostly Div. I opponents.

Radke and Tam also teamed up for a doubles win over a duo from DePauw while Koval earned a pair of wins in his two doubles matches. Also competing for WashU was senior John Fakouri.

ITA Central Regional:

The Bears saw several players make deep runs in the tournament that featured top players from around the region. Five Bears reached the Round of 32, down from the round of 128. Senior Scott Yamamoto picked up a pair of wins with senior Stefan Hester and junior Case Fagan also making it to the final 32. Juniors Eric Kuo and Colin Scruggs both reached quarterfinals before bowing out of the tournament.

WashU also sent three doubles teams out to the courts in the event. All three teams picked up three wins to start, each reaching the quarter finals. Junior Colin Fox teamed up with Fagan to go 3-1. The duo of senior Pato Garcia Muriel and Hester also went an identical 3-1. Kuo and Yamamoto reached the semifinals with four wins to start before ending their run to the eventual champion team from Denison.
