ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Washington University in St. Louis softball team closed out its season with a 2-1 loss to No. 10 Belhaven in the regional final series on Saturday afternoon. The Bears finish the season with a 28-12 record.
WashU scored first in the top of the first inning.
Erin Reardon led off with a single to center and then stole second.
Natalia Pilpil drilled a deep double that bounced off the top of the fence and bounced back in, to score Reardon for the 1-0 lead.
Belhaven came out in the bottom of the third to tie things up at 1-1. Anna Caime led off with a double to right center. Then, with two outs, Madi Miller singled to short, scoring Caime.
The Blazers took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. With one out, Ellie Jones singled through the left side and Katie Jo Richardson was hit by a pitch. Natalee Parker lined out to short but an error allowed Jones to move to third. Caime reached base on a throwing error, giving Jones time to score for the 2-1 edge.
Reardon finished 2-for-3 with one run scored while Pilpil was 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Maria Brooks took the loss in the circle, pitching a complete game with six hits, one earned run, no walks and five strikeouts.
