ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - The No. 12 Washington University in St. Louis concluded the three-day, University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships, Saturday, April 27. The Bears were upended by No. 4 Emory University, 5-3, which gave WashU a fourth-place finish in the championship.
With the loss, WashU's record sits at 12-11 on the year. Emory, who took third in the championship, own a record of 16-5.
Doubles
The Bears topped the Eagles in two doubles matches to generate the 2-1 cushion heading into singles play.
Sophomore
Colin Fox and senior
Gaurav Singh welcomed the 8-5 No. 1 doubles win against Ryan Glanville and Brandon Cohen.
At No. 2 doubles, sophomore
Eric Kuo and junior
Scott Yamamoto dropped a heartbreaker to Nolan Shah and Dean Kamenev, 8-7 (9-7).
Singles
Sophomore
Colin Scruggs, competing at No. 2 singles, made quick work of Shah to the tune of a 6-1, 6-2 sweep.
Phillips was edged by Kamenev at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-4.
Playing at No. 3 singles, Singh won his first set against Glanville, 2-6, then dropped sets two and three (6-3, 6-2).
Kuo, playing against Waldman, fell in straight sets by scores of 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4 singles.
At No. 5 singles, graduate student Sergiu Celebidachi fell short against Liew, 6-2, 6-2.
Junior
John Fakouri won his first by a score of 6-4, then dropped his second (2-6). Right before the third set was about to begin, the match was abandoned.
