No. 12 Men’s Tennis Takes Down Division II, No. 18, McKendree

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The No. 12 Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team took down Division II, and 18th-ranked, McKendree University, 5-4, Monday, April 22. The victory marked WashU's second straight win over the Bearcats as the Bears won last year's meeting by a final score of 6-1. With today's win, WashU's record jumped to 11-9, while McKendree's record slipped to 14-3. 
 
Doubles 
 
WashU won two doubles matches to take the 2-1 lead heading into the singles portion of the match. 
 
At No. 1 doubles, senior Gaurav Singh and sophomore Colin Fox registered the 8-4 win over Leonardo Schmitz Frederico and Bendix Schroeder. 
 
Playing the No. 2 doubles position, sophomore Eric Kuo and junior Scott Yamamoto came out victorious against Luka Kalenic and Mathijs Aalpol by a final tally of 8-6. 
 
Sophomore Case Fagan and junior Pato Garcia Muriel fell just short at No. 3 doubles, 8-7 (7-5), against Vishnu Prasad and Lorenzo del Biondo.  
 
Singles 
 
Singh made quick work of Prasad as he secured the straight set sweep, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 2 singles. 
 
Sophomore Colin Scruggs downed Seb Holden, 7-6 (7-2), 6-0, to welcome the No. 3 singles win. 
 
Garcia Muriel escaped his No. 5 singles match with the 6-3, 6-4 win over Kalenic. 
 
Phillips dropped his match at No. 1 singles to Schmitz Frederico, 6-2, 6-1. 
 
Junior Scott Yamamoto fell to del Biondo at No. 6 singles by set scores of 6-2 and 7-6 (7-3). 
 
Kuo, competing at No. 4 singles, lost a tight three-set battle to Schroeder, 6-3, 4-6, 10-6. 
 
The Bears will make the trip to Altamonte Springs, Fla. for the three-day University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship, Thursday-Saturday, April 25-27. WashU, the four-seed, is set to square off with No. 25 Carnegie Mellon University, the five-seed, in the quarterfinal round, Thursday at 8:30 a.m. ET.
