Softball Splits With Huntingdon to End Spring Break

Montgomery, Ala. – The Washington University in St. Louis softball team split with Huntingdon College to close out its spring break trip. The Bears are now 7-3 overall.
 
Game 1: WashU 1, Huntingdon 0 (8 innings)
After seven scoreless innings, the Bears broke through in the top of the seventh inning to score what would end up being the game-winning run.
 
Catryn Cattoor was placed on second to start the inning and advanced to third on a Maggie Baumstark grounder. Erin Reardon drove in Cattoor with a single to the pitcher to make it a 1-0 game.
 
The Bears' forced three outs in a row to end the game and take the win.
 
Reardon finished 2-for-4 with one RBI while Sydney Schneider, Payton Irwin, Brooke Capparelli and Cattoor each went 1-for-3. Maria Brooks earned the win in the circle, pitching a complete game with five hits, no runs and four strikeouts.
 
Game 2: Huntingdon 4, WashU 3
Huntingdon got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning. Maddie Grace Hubbard reached first on an error to lead things off and moved up a base on a Dani Holt ground out. Miranda Treadway was hit by a pitch and Riley Rudick reached base on an error to load things up.
 
Katie Burch drew a walk which scored Hubbard for the first run of the inning. Brooke Stefankiewicz singled to second to bring in Treadway and Kylie Stephens singled to right field to bring in Rudick for a 3-0 lead.
 
The Bears scored their first run of the game in the top of the third inning. With one out, Schneider singled to left, stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball. Ashley Kennedy hit a one-out single to center, scoring Schneider for a 3-1 game.
 
The Hawks added another run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kamryn Miller lead off with a single to third and stole second. Miller moved up on a Stefankiewicz ground out and scored on a Stephens single to left center.
 
WashU put up a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning. Taylor Geluck led off with a single to right field and Alexa Hanish drew a walk. Julia Nicholus doubled to left field, scoring Geluck. Jamie Cendana followed up with a single to third and Kristina Donaldson reached base on a fielder's choice. Baumstark sent a single to left to bring home Reardon, who was pinch running for Nicholus.
 
Reardon went 1-for-2 with one run scored and Baumstark finished 1-for-2 with one RBI. Schneider, Olivia Craycraft, Kennedy and Geluck each went 1-for-4 on the day. Hattie Bond took the loss, pitching two innings with three hits and three runs.
 
The Bears host Fontbonne on Thursday afternoon at 3 and 5 p.m. The game will serve as Neighbor Day.
