St. Louis, Mo. – The No. 10 men's swimming and diving team defeated Division III UMSL 130.00-75.00 on Friday evening at Millstone Pool. Prior to competition, the Bears honored their seniors –
Austin Bick,
Matthew Larsen,
Mark Lipkin,
Brendan Long,
Alex McCormick,
Mason Rhode,
Ryan Wierschem,
Kyle Wolford and
Kenneth Yeh.
The Bears started the day with a win in the 200 medley relay as the team of McCormick,
Justin Rockaway,
Nathan Lin and Bick won in 1:33.74. The team of Wolford,
Devin Bunner,
Matthew Walker and
Reece Bends finished second with a time of 1:35.84.
Ryan Hillery was the top Bears' finisher in the 1,000 freestyle, taking second with a time of 9:50.70. Matthew Giardinelli took third in 9:51.37 while Long finished fourth in 10:05.07.
The Bears finished first and second in the 200 freestyle, led by
Ethan Feng in first with a time of 1:42.54. Lipkin took second in 1:43.87.
Orluke Borjigin finished fourth in 1:44.67.
Bick won the 50 freestyle, racing to a time of 21.30. Rockaway finished in third in 21.82 while Wierschem took fourth in 21.95 and Walker finished fifth with 22.06.
WashU's top finisher in the 200 IM was
Danny Sibley who finished second with a time of 1:55.54.
Marco Minai claimed third in 1:55.80 and McCormick finished fourth in 1:55.83.
Bick finished second in the 100 butterfly, racing to a time of 51.67. Walker took third in 51.69 and
Andy Zhu finished fourth in 51.92.
Nathan Lin rounded out the top five with a time of 52.18.
Feng won his second race of the day, claiming the top spot in the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.15. Bends took second in 47.73 and Lipkin finished third in 47.74.
Kai Taft took fourth with a time of 48.04 and Giardinelli finished fifth in 48.70.
Wolford led the field in the 100 backstroke, winning in 50.77. McCormick finished second with a time of 51.15 and Minai took fourth in 53.67.
Borjigin won the 500 freestyle, racing to a time of 4:44.13. Hillery took third in 4:49.96 and Sibley finished fourth in 4:50.44.
WashU's top finisher in the 100 breaststroke was Lin, taking second in 59.60. Rockaway finished third in 59.78 while Zhu took fifth with a time of 1:00.30.
The Bears wrapped up the day with a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay as the team of Lipkin, Feng, Sibley and
Pace Edwards swam to a time of 1:25.39.
The Bears head to McKendree tomorrow for a 12 p.m. meet.
