St. Louis, Mo., Jan. 10, 2019 – Washington University in St. Louis senior middle hitter Julianne Malek was crowned as the 2018-19 NCAA Division III Volleyball Hitting Percentage Statistical Champion, after concluding the season with a career-best .438 mark.
Malek posted 355 kills on 649 attempts, limiting her attacks to just 71 errors for Division III's leading .438 hitting percentage, which ranks eighth in WashU single season program history. Her hitting percentage was the second highest among all Divisions, as Colorado Mesa's Kasie Gilfert of Division II posted the nation's top overall success rate (.451). Malek was the 2017-18 Division III hitting percentage runner-up, finishing with a .427 mark. Her career mark of .388 ranks sixth in school history.
Malek earned First Team All-American honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), First Team All-University Athletic Association (UAA) honors and Third Team Google Cloud Academic All-America honors as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
