Wheaton, Ill., Sept. 3, 2016 – The No. 2-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team posted its second-consecutive shutout as the Bears defeated Hanover College 4-0 Saturday at the Bob Baptista Invitational hosted by Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill.
WashU outshot Hanover 19-4, and had a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Junior Gillian Myers gave WashU the 1-0 advantage in the 29th minute when she converted a penalty kick. The goal for Myers was the first of her career. WashU outshot Hanover 7-3 in the first half.
WashU continued to put the pressure in the second half and senior All-American Katie Chandler made it 2-0 when she scored with the left foot from 16 yards out. The goal for Chandler was her first of the season and 26th of her career.
WashU (2-0) hosts Aurora University in its 2016 home opener Friday, Sept. 9, at 6:30 p.m.
