Men’s Tennis Opens Season at Valpo Fall Invitational

Valparaiso, Ind., Sept. 20, 2016 – The Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team opened the 2016 fall season by competing at the Valparaiso University Fall Invitational Sept 9-10 in Valparaiso, Ind. 

WashU was the lone non NCAA Division I team that competed in the event which included Chicago State University, Eastern Illinois University, University of Iowa, Purdue University and Valparaiso.

Senior John Carswell and freshman Robin Engel highlighted doubles play for WashU by advancing to the Flight B doubles championship. The duo lost to Martinez/Gonzalez of Chicago State 6-2 in the final. Freshmen Jessie Korovin and J.J. Kroot also posted a 2-1 record in the B Doubles draw winning the consolation championship.

In the A Doubles flight, freshman Bernardo Neves and junior Johnny Wu posted a 2-1 mark after defeating Woodson/Wendell of Eastern Illinois in the third-place match.

In singles, Kroot defeated Engel to win the Flight D Singles Championship. Neves also took home third-place honors in Flight B, while Carswell was the consolation champion in Flight A.

WashU plays in the 2016 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Regional Friday-Monday, Sept. 23-25, in Kalamazoo, Mich.
