St. Louis, Mo., Sept. 18, 2018 – Washington University in St. Louis returns home to host Carthage College (1-1, 1-0 CCIW) on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 1 p.m., as part of Fall Festival and Alumni Day. The Bears are coming off a 32-19 loss at No. 5 North Central in their College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) opener.

THE SERIES – WashU and Carthage are meeting for the first time in school history.

THE COACHES – WashU head coach Larry Kindbom (Kalamazoo, 1974) is in his 30th season at WashU, with a record of 178-115 (.608). His 178 wins rank him as the all-time winningest coach at WashU. Overall, in 36 seasons, Kindbom is 206-145-1 (.587).

Carthage head coach Dustin Haas (Indiana, 2008) is 1-1 (.500) in his first season with the Red Men. Haas was named the 22nd head coach in school history in 2018. He previously served as the defensive coordinator/defensive backs coach for four seasons (2014-17) and special teams coordinator/defensive backs coach in 2013.

HOME SWEET HOME – WashU has posted a 21-6 (.778) record at Francis Field in the past six seasons. The Bears had their school-record nine-game win streak snapped in a 39-28 loss to Centre College on Sept. 17, 2016.

WASHU PICKED SIXTH IN CCIW POLL – The Bears were picked sixth out of 10 teams in the 2018 CCIW Annual Preseason Coaches' Poll. North Central was first as Wheaton was second and Illinois Wesleyan third. Carthage was fourth, followed by Millikin, WashU, Elmhurst, Augustana, North Park and Carroll.

CCIW STATS – Senior kick returner Alex Fehlinger leads the CCIW in kick return average, returning seven kickoffs for 180 yards for a 25.7 average. Fehlinger had a season-high 36-yard return at No. 5 North Central.

MEDIA COVERAGE – Saturday's contest vs. Carthage will be broadcast live at no cost on the WashU Sports Network. Jay Murry will provide play-by-play. Live stats will also be available on the WashU Athletics website - washubears.com. The game will also be broadcast live on KWUR 90.3 FM.
