WashU Hosts Buena Vista in First-Ever Matchup

St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 9, 2017 – Washington University in St. Louis hosts Buena Vista University (3-2, 2-2 IIAC) on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 1 p.m., in the Bears' fifth home game of the season. WashU dropped its fourth-straight game on Oct. 7, falling at Washington and Lee 28-21.

THE SERIES – The teams are meeting for the first time in school history.

THE COACHES – Head coach Larry Kindbom (Kalamazoo, 1974) is in his 29th season at WashU, with an overall record of 175-113 (.608). His 175 wins rank him as the all-time winningest coach at WashU. Overall, Kindbom ranks 15th in active NCAA coaches with a 203-143-1 (.586) record in 35 seasons as a college football coach.

Buena Vista head coach Grant Mollring (Nebraska Kearney, 2003) is 3-2 (.600) in his first season as a collegiate head coach. Mollring arrived in Storm Lake after having served as the offensive coordinator at Hastings College for three seasons and four years at Doane College.

UAA ATHLETES OF THE WEEK – Sophomore punter Johnny Davidson and junior wide receiver Jason Singer were named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week on Oct. 9. Davidson, the Special Teams Athlete of the Week, had a 73-yard punt in the first quarter, and landed all three of his punts inside the 20 in the loss at Washington and Lee. He finished the day with a 52.7 average, and ranks 14th in NCAA Division III in punting (41.4). Singer, the Offensive Athlete of the Week, had a career-day hauling in seven receptions for 130 yards and three touchdowns at Washington and Lee. He had touchdown receptions of 43, 17 and 53 yards in the defeat.
